FROM 1860, TUSCANY PRECIOUS WITH ONLY 3 LIRE

The events of the second war for independence (1859), whose 150th anniversary is celebrated in 2009, brought to the formation of the Tuscan Provisional Government. From a political point of view, it was really short (27 April - 10 May 1859), but it led to the formation of the Government of Tuscany already from 11 May, and to the integration in the Kingdom of Italy from 17 March 1861.

The 3 lire postage stamp, with the Savoy coat of arms in the middle, was issued on 1 January 1860. It is one among the rarest stamps in the history of philately.
